Thanks to its Électricité de Provence brand, Hydroption saw its number of customers increase by 32% in January. As an alternative electricity supplier since September 2015, Hydroption is taking advantage of historically low electricity prices to attract SME/SMI consumers leaving the Regulated Sales Tariffs.

The end of TRVs forces professional electricity consumers – now subject to market prices – to protect themselves against price fluctuations. With its Électricité de Provence brand, Hydroption offers SME/SMI consumers electricity from renewable sources at 8 to 12% less expensive than competition with fixed prices guaranteed over periods ranging from 1 to 5 years.

Authorized to operate as an electricity supplier since the ministerial decree of 22 September 2015, Hydroption confirms the growth it began at the end of last year with a 32% increase in the number of its customers in January. New customers include mainly supermarket chains, industrial SMEs, hospitals and sports facilities.

Targeting only companies and local authorities with a consumption of more than 100 MWh/year (i.e. an annual invoice of around €10,000), Hydroption offers 100% renewable electricity mainly from French hydropower plants and wind and photovoltaic farms. Thanks to low structural costs, direct access to the European energy exchanges EEX and EPEX SPOT and a historically low electricity price due to the collapse of coal, gas and oil barrel prices, the savings achieved range from 8 to 12% depending on the size of the companies and their consumption profile.

logo électricité de provenceWith its Électricité de Provence brand, Hydroption initially targets SMEs in the South of France in order to increase its reputation in PACA and Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées. However, thanks to its ministerial authorization and its status as a balance responsible for the transmission and distribution networks, the company can supply any type of customer in France.
